The Highlands

The Highlands

A land of myths, mystery and of course, malts, the Highlands are as remote, romantic, and wild as you would hope them to be. The scenery is simply breathtaking. From the rolling fields of barley around The House, and the white sandy beaches and sparkling waters, to the pine forests and dramatic snow capped mountains. It is a land that you just have to immerse yourself in.

Golf & Golf Courses

Being the Home of Golf, you would expect some great courses, and there are plenty of links courses for every level of golfer on the Ross-shire peninsula. However, there are few finer than Royal Dornoch. One of the best kept secrets in golf due to its location, its Championship Course is actually ranked the fifth best course in the world. Thankfully it’s not remote to us, and is less than half an hour away.

Outdoor Pursuits

Outdoor Pursuits

The Highlands is a giant playground for outdoor pursuits. Whatever you are into, you will find it here. There is mountaineering, mountain biking and hillwalking, pony trekking, rambling and cycling. Take a boat trip on Loch Ness, or out to sea to spot bottlenose dolphins, minke whales and basking sharks. And look out for red deer, otters and golden eagles.

History & Sightseeing

This is an area steeped in history and legend. The House itself stands right beside the ruins of an ancient monument. During your stay we can help you put together an itinerary of fascinating places to visit – from castles and stately homes, to battlefields, steam railways and Pictish standing stones. Or if you are here in the summer you can take in the colour, noise and excitement of a traditional Highland Games.
